What goes wrong with Worcester boilers

The recurring cast our engineers see: low-pressure lockouts (the 1017 code on current models) from the usual system causes rather than the boiler itself; the EA code covering ignition and flame-detection faults — commonly condensate freezing in winter, gas supply interruptions, or ageing electrodes; E9 overheat events pointing at circulation problems, scaled heat exchangers or failing pumps; and on older CDi models, diverter valve wear showing up as hot water without heating or vice versa.

Hard-water homes deserve a specific mention: Worcester's aluminium heat exchangers dislike scale as much as anyone's, and in hard-water regions a scale reducer on the supply plus properly inhibited system water is the difference between the 15-year lifespan and a mid-life heat exchanger bill. The annual service — a warranty condition anyway — is where that protection gets checked.
